SSP SHRIMP REACHES CHILEAN MARKET

WITH RETAIL GIANT JUMBO

The Sustainable Shrimp Partnership (SSP) announces expansion aims to bring Ecuadorian Premium Shrimp Products to Chilean consumers

Guayaquil, Ecuador: July 5th, 2022. The Sustainable Shrimp Partnership (SSP) announced today it has officially expanded its presence to the Chilean market with retail giant Jumbo, where SSP-approved premium shrimp will be available under Cuisine&Co brand. SSP’s high-quality and sustainable shrimp is Aquaculture Stewardship Council (ASC) certified, farmed without the use of antibiotics, has neutral impact on water, and is fully traceable.

Each package of SSP shrimp is stamped with a QR code that Chilean consumers can scan and in matter of seconds access to key information on their shrimp’s journey from farm to fork, to verify where, when, who, and how their shrimp was farmed and processed so they can trust the quality and sustainability profile of the product. This information is enabled thanks to a traceability-app that is connected to IBM Food Trust, a platform that provides traceability of food through blockchain technology.

“For consumers, it is important to know that they are acquiring a product that is healthy for them, produced and processed in a responsible way with nature and with workers. Through our traceability tool, consumers have the opportunity to know our story, and demonstrate compliance with the highest quality and sustainability standards” shared Rodrigo Laniado, SSP Founding Member and CEO from Songa.

“We are thrilled to introduce SSP shrimp to the Chilean consumer. SSP provides Ecuadorian premium quality shrimp that have been raised sustainably with care for the selective Jumbo shopper. Our collaboration with SSP, supports our ambition to align with producers who adhere to the highest social and environmental standards. We, like SSP, believe that the best tasting food is made by people who care” added María Paz Hasenohr Santa María, Regional Brand Manager from Cencosud.

“We promise that with every bite, you can taste the difference our natural and sustainable farming practices make. We care about our consumers and ensuring the highest quality product for them has always been our objective. We are pleased to work with partners like Jumbo, who are committed on improving consumers choice for healthy and sustainable seafood” commented Pamela Nath, SSP Director.

Consumers will now be able to purchase SSP shrimp under Cuisine&Co brand in store and online at Jumbo. It is also available for in home delivery through www.jumbo.cl.

The SSP Promise

The SSP promise guarantees its shrimp is produced to the highest social and environmental standards whilst ensuring maximum flavor. All SSP farms meet the requirements of the ASC standard for responsible aquaculture, plus three additional criteria which all SSP products must meet:

  • Zero antibiotics: Ensuring zero use of antibiotics across the production cycle
  • 100% Traceability: Every shrimp’s journey from farm to fork
  • Neutral impact on water: Ensuring water leaving farms maintains its original quality

SSP is working to expand the availability of its shrimp in retail stores worldwide. For more information on SSP shrimp and for retailers interested in learning more, please contact pnath@sustainableshrimp.org
